QUALITIES.
Dalish plain talk. Apparently it's jarring at first.
He's actually fairly uncomplicated. Think of him as a wild bird. He goes where he pleases as he pleases, tilts his head to look at you, and is prone to flitting off without explanation. He takes the "never again shall we submit" philosophy of the Dalish very seriously. Very seriously. As in, rampaged through the Denerim alienage riling up the crowds with shouts of "NEVER AGAIN!" after slaughtering the Tevinter magister enslaving elves. But there are very few things that rile him up like that; in fact, he tries to avoid or purge emotions when they get too big and scary. He doesn't handle change very well, or pressure, or politics.
He is thoughtful without necessarily being polite, and prone to speaking whatever is on his mind even when it's inappropriate, oblivious (or acting oblivious) to any offense caused or the reason for it. Somewhat phlegmatic temperament, but happy to rock the boat when it's needed. He is allergic to city life and prefers the wild, loves the halla, and puts his clan first and foremost whether that clan is the Sabrae clan or the Grey Wardens, or the person he loves. He sees death as a part of life and a hazard of doing things, so he is not over-careful. His fighting style is tempestuous, and can rely pretty heavily on throwing grenades at the biggest target and assuming his comrades have the sense to stand back.
Worst fear is dying of the Darkspawn taint in the Deep Roads, so he has a reckless streak married to a death wish during earlier canon points. This later motivates him to seek out a cure for the Calling.
And he has no money sense.
TALENTS.
What if we tied grenades to arrows and shot them at the enemy?
Rogue/ranger. Primary skills include bow, dual blades, poisons and grenades, survival skills galore, and bullshitting coercion.
CHRONICLE.
I wasn't allowed to choose this life. Duncan chose it. He's not going to choose my death as well.
Grew up with Merrill and Tamlen as his only real agemates, both his closest friends. His father died before he was born and his mother vanished shortly after, so he was raised by Ashalle, a kind unmarried woman.
Origins
- Had to be conscripted by Duncan, or he would have chosen to die of the taint among his people.
- Bit Duncan.
- Mabari is named Hiron
- Sided with the mages. "Never again shall we submit."
- Saved Connor via the Circle. Felt very proud of himself.
- Started casual relationship with Zevran.
- Killed the Cult and the dragon.
- Revered Andraste's ashes. She freed the elves.
- Sided with Harrowmont because it just seemed easier at the time. Figured he wouldn't last long as king.
- Destroyed the anvil.
- Relationship with Zevran getting less casual.
- Made that traitor Zathrian break the curse. Fuck Zathrian.
- Got drunk because Zathrian shook his faith in his own people.
- Got "engaged" to Zevran.
- Executed Loghain.
- Arranged for Alistair and Anora to marry because, even though he didn't want to lose the only member of his new "clan," it was just so much easier that way and he hates these politics but none of that would matter if Alistair hadn't said he wanted it. And he did. And Alistair is so good and if anyone's going to be king, it should be someone like Alistair.
- Had baby with Morrigan, who he never really liked before, but never intended to just let her get away without letting him meet his child.
Awakening
- Conscripted Anders to "free" him from the templars because "never again shall we submit," later realized he'd just signed him on to another group he couldn't leave
- Conscripted Nathaniel because it was his way of leaving his fate up to the Creators
- Allowed everyone to join who wanted to join, really
- Prioritized the farms and rebuilding the keep
- Spat in the face of Howe's obligations to other people because fuck Howe
- Killed the Architect because for once, he didn't take what seemed like the easiest way out and wasn't going to fuck around with darkspawn
- Ran off to have adventures with Zevran
Witch Hunt
- Found Morrigan, begged to see his son, had to let her go through the mirror
- Dammit he hates that mirror
FRIENDS.
She seemed to think we have nothing to be ashamed of, but that we ought to be ashamed nonetheless.
Alistair: Was the only person he considered his clan for a year. He would do anything for him, including sire a demon god baby.
Zevran: It started out casual and turned into an unorthodox sort of lifemating. Post-Awakening they have travels and adventures together. And kill a lot of Crows.
Morrigan: Thought she was a bitch who just needed to open up and let some things out. Managed to coax her out somewhat, but then feelings got WAY complicated with the baby thing, he went looking for her...
Leliana: He's sort of enchanted by her, because she knows so much about the world and he knows so little. And she told him a story about the Dalish that he didn't know and so he listens to her stories for hours and loves it.
Sten: There was so much tension here, including a very spontaneous duel in Haven that almost got Theron killed, but the constant challenging of Theron's flighty behavior was good for him. Earning each others' respect was a milestone for them both.
Dog: Treated a lot more like a king than Alistair.
Shale: He liked Shale a lot. Her misanthropy had a way of bouncing right off him, and he related to her gradual discovery of the outside world.
Oghren: If Sten is Theron's challenger, Oghren is his enabler. Oghren is a very comfortable person to be around but can bring out Theron's flaws bigtime.
Merrill: As per canon, he grew up with her and was a very close friend with her. She's one of the people he misses most.
Nathaniel: Was actually more interested in how hard it was to subdue Nathaniel than in the fact that Nathaniel just tried to kill him. Conscripting him had a touch of "leave his fate up to the Creators" to it, but Nathaniel will be one of his absolute lifelong friends in the Wardens.
Anders: Late at night, Theron curls up and wishes he could have given Anders the freedom he wanted, because freedom is a Thing for Dalish elves sort of like it is for Scots and Americans. Anders will be to Theron what Aneirin was to Wynne, in all likelihood, except Theron's still figuring out exactly how he failed Anders.
Velanna: Bitch he tried and tried hard to be your friend but you were still a bitch. Homesick Dalish elves finding some comfort in each other? Nope. You drove him insane.
Sigrun: A kindred spirit like he never met before outside the Dalish. He wanted to keep her just to carry around in his pack everywhere he went. But now she's dead and that sucks.
Justice: Intense. Really, scarily intense. Useful, but boy does he hope he can go quietly back to the Fade...
